The label approval process
As part of the assessment process the APVMA approves product labels. The APVMA examines how the chemical will be used, the application rate, method of application and concentration levels to ensure the product’s maximum efficacy. Preparation, storage and first aid instructions are also carefully assessed to safeguard human and environmental health and safety.
Changes to labels and label submissions
On 15 July 2010, legislation was enacted to change the way the APVMA approves labels. To ensure you understand how these changes affect you, please see the common questions and answers about the changes in labels and the new statutory conditions that apply to existing and new label approvals.
Labels for all insecticide products require updating to reflect changes to mode of action groups introduced on 15 September 2009.
Labels for some herbicide products require updating to reflect changes to mode of action groupings introduced in February 2008.
Copies of product labels are generally available as part of the search results in the PUBCRIS database.
If a label is not available in PUBCRIS, it can be requested by contacting the Registration Inquiries area below. To ensure you receive the correct label, please provide:
- the product name (eg Company X Weed Killer)
- the product number (eg 123456)
- your full name
- your email address (for an electronic copy) or your full postal address (for a hardcopy)
- Administrative requirements
- Progress of your application
- Data lists and data protection enquiries
